Day Four: Chicago

We awoke on Day Four in Brian Becker's Chicago apartment at around 10. After showering and some updating of previous blog entries, we strolled a couple of blocks over and found some breakfast at Crepes on Broadway. It took a while before breakfast found us, but, eventually, several delicious crepes met their doom in our clutches.

We then made our way to the Chicago Museum of Science and Industry, which had free admission for the day. While awaiting our transfer from the #36 bus to the #6, we crossed the interestingly-hued Chicago River. It was rather cold for June, probably somewhere in the vicinity of 50 degrees.

The museum was interesting enough. Ferrett will post some pictures from there eventually.

After they kicked us out of the museum at closing time (5:30pm), we took the #6 back north to Millennium Park. There we saw some very cool public art in the form of two large monoliths that featured falling water and slow-motion video of smiling faces.

The Cloud Gate was the other fascinating sculpture. The view of its exterior was interesting enough...

...but walking inside was like entering a futuristic house of mirrors. The whole structure had no visible flat surfaces, and thus produced a number of exciting different reflections.

It was also very difficult to ascertain the shape of the inside part of the structure. This photo was taken in the center, looking straight up. If you look carefully, you might see the four of us standing in a circle reflected some five times throughout the image.

As it started to rain, we took the "L" back to Becker's apartment, packed up the car, and headed off for O'Hare to pick up Andy and drop off Brian's dad (who had been in town for Brian's graduation). On the way, we drove by 1060 West Addison.

Upon our arrival at Terminal One, we finally became complete

and set off on our epic drive to Mount Rushmore, which is covered in detail in our next entry.
